Languages and linguistic diversity are intrinsic to the European Union, which means that qualitative and fast multilingual communication is of the utmost importance. Therefore, the European Commission has invested in an Automated Translation platform within the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF AT), which is free of charge for all public institutions. It builds upon the MT@EC machine translation system that was developed by DG Translation of the European Commission and has been offered to the public administrations of the Member States. By facilitating the exchange of documents between and with national public administrations in Europe, the CEF programme will improve the coverage and quality of the translation system.

During this ELRC workshop, we would like to engage in an open dialogue with you to better understand your day-to-day needs. The detailed program is attached to this email. Dedicated experts from the European Commission, language technologists, language service providers and national public administrations will work together to identify your requirements with regard to automated translation. We will discuss language resources, and any technical and legal issues involved in the use of data for automated translations.

If you are interested or if you would like to get updated on current developments and possibilities with regard to automated translation, we are very happy to welcome you personally to our workshop. For further questions or for confirmation of your participation, please get directly in touch with the local workshop managers Véronique Hoste (Veronique.hoste@ugent.be) and Ayla Rigouts Terryn (ayla.rigoutsterryn@ugent.be).
