ELRC Workshop in Austria

The Austrian ELRC workshop was held on April 15th, 2016 at the Centre for Translation Studies of the University of Vienna. The event was organized by the Centre for Translation Studies, with the support of the DGT office in Vienna. The workshop was attended by more than 30 participants from ministries and public organizations.

The opening addresses were delivered by Achim Braun (Head of the Vienna Office of the DG Translation), Bruno Nestler (Ministry of National Defense and Sport, Public Sector National Anchor Point), Gerhard Budin (ELRC Technology National Anchor Point, University of Vienna) and Stelios Piperidis (ELRC /ILSP).

The program featured presentations by representatives of ELRC and the EC, as well a number of panel discussions with local experts from the government sector and public institutions, providing useful information on the situation of the public translation services in Austria and the use of automated translation. Practical issues and the next steps for the identification and provision of relevant data from the Austrian public services for the ELRC process were discussed and explained. The readiness to participate and the positive expectation of a benefit of using CEF.AT were clearly expressed.
