ELRC Workshop in Romania


The Romanian ELRC Workshop took place in Bucharest, on the 23rd of March 2016 at the premises of the EC Representation in Romania. The event was attended by more than 60 participants spanning a wide range of decision makers and professionals from major ministries and public organisations.

The opening addresses were delivered by Liliana Comănescu (Head of the Bucharest Office of the DG Translation), Dan Tufiș (ELRC National Anchor Point for Romania, Director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Romanian Academy) and Stelios Piperidis (ELRC/ILSP).

Representatives from ELRC and the European Commission presented the goals of the project, the role of language resources and the benefits of automated translation, the status of multilingualism in the EU, and the vision of the Connecting European Facility – Automated Translation infrastructure.

The program featured presentations by representatives of ELRC and the EC, as well a number of panel discussions with local experts from the government sector and public institutions. The participants were engaged in the workshop topics, they presented the state of the art with respect to the way ministries deal with translation problems and discussed best practices for data provision and further ELRC activities to help public institutions with the process of making public sector data available.
