ELRC Workshop in Slovakia


The Slovak ELRC workshop took place in Bratislava, on the 14th of April, 2016 at the premises of the EC Representation in Slovakia. The event was organized by the Slovak National Corpus, the department of Ľudovít Štúr Institute of Linguistics, Slovak Academy of Sciences, together with the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and with the support of the DGT Office in Bratislava. The workshop was attended by more than 60 participants from ministries and public organizations, as well as scientists and freelance translators.

The opening addresses were delivered by Dušan Chrenek (Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia), Zuzana Komárová (Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic), Mária Šimková (Ľ. Štúr Institute of Linguistics, Slovak Academy of Sciences), Miroslav Zumrík (ELRC Technology National Anchor Point, Ľ. Štúr Institute of Linguistics) and Stelios Piperidis (ELRC /ILSP).

The program featured presentations by representatives of ELRC and the EC, as well a number of panel discussions with local experts from the government sector and public institutions. The participants were engaged in the workshop topics, they commented on the peculiarities and challenges of language services in the Slovak public sector, and discussed best practices for data provision and further ELRC activities to help the public administration with the process of making public sector data available.
